Saturday May 18, I attended the 3rd Annual Rocky Mountain Light Sport Aircraft Expo at Front Range Airport. The Expo showcases to the public, many of the Light Sport Aircraft available on the market, as well as a variety of experimental aircraft and of course everyone’s favorite… the classics of  a by-gone era of aviation, an assortment of the vintage fighters and trainers of WWII.

New to this year’s show, and the Colorado air-show scene in general, is this beautiful example of a North American Aviation NA-50 fighter. The NA-50 was developed  for export as a single seat, single engine, low-wing fighter. The original NA-50 was based off the NA-16/BT-9 basic training aircraft of 1935. This gorgeous example of the NA-50 painted in US Army Air Corp colors of 1939, is a replica constructed from SNJ-4 and T-6G airframe parts and is powered by a 600 h.p. Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp engine.

I look forward to seeing this aircraft at future events here in the state and can not wait for more opportunities to capture images of her.
